Flat-plate nesting and CAM

GCnester

Import it. Nest it. Cut it.
10 days · every Business feature · no card

GCnester is flat plate nesting and CAM for CNC plasma, laser and waterjet tables. Import the part, nest it on a sheet, set the cut path, watch it in simulation and export G-code for your controller. Built for job shops, sign makers, fab shops and serious hobbyists who need the work done.

01Import

Start from the file you already have

Bring in DXF, DWG or SVG, flat profiles from saved GCmaker parts, or planar faces from STEP and IGES models. Clean small gaps and duplicate geometry before nesting, then assign each contour to cutting, marking or ignore.

DXF, DWG and SVG import
Flat profiles from saved GCmaker parts, and planar faces from STEP and IGES models
Gap weld, duplicate removal and arc fit with a tolerance you set
Assign contours to cutting, marking or ignore
Sketcher and the Profile Library (Pro)
Shape Library: start mounting plates, flanges, straps, gussets, lugs and more from a dialog, then edit the sketch with the normal tools (Pro)
Available in: Standard · Pro · Business
Import · a DXF part placed on the plate
02Nesting

Fit more parts on every sheet

True-shape automatic nesting packs the sheet; drag, rotate and delete by hand when you know better. Set each part's allowed rotation, and let remaining quantity spill onto the next sheet.

True-shape automatic nesting
Manual nesting: drag, rotate, delete
Part spacing and edge spacing
Rotation per part: Free, Locked, 0/180 or Quarter
Multi-sheet fill from remaining quantity
Remnant nesting on saved offcuts (Pro)
Chain cutting: joins eligible consecutive outer cuts through scrap
Bridge cutting: eligible chained parts stay attached, with a bridge width you set
Available in: Standard · Pro · Business
True-shape nest · 48 parts placed on one sheet
03Tool path

Leads, kerf and cut order, handled

One lead editor for the whole program sets lead-in, lead-out, kerf and overcut. Sequence cuts automatically or drag them into the order you want, and add skeleton cuts so the drop falls apart on the table.

Leads, kerf and overcut from one shared editor
Automatic and manual cut sequencing with drag reorder
Skeleton and crop cuts: auto frame plus drawn edge-to-edge lines
Per-chain lead overrides by right-clicking a contour
Six sequencing strategies: Nearest Neighbor, Nearest Skip Neighbors, Heat Spread, Serpentine Rows, Serpentine Columns, Smallest First
Skeleton leads with edge start and over-travel
Route rapids around already-cut parts (2D routing)
Gang nesting for coupled multi-torch machines: 1 to 8 torches at fixed spacing
Available in: Standard · Pro · Business

04Simulation & estimating

See the cut before the table does

Play the nest back from the posted G-code, watch parts drop and the skeleton web thin out, and read the estimated run time and cost off the same screen. Estimates come from your configured material, machine, motion, pierce and rate data.

Embedded playback plus a posted-G-code animator
Falling parts and skeleton web in playback
Time estimate from cut length, rapids, pierces and configured feeds
Cost estimate from plate price and consumed area, remnants prorated (Business)
Quoting (Business)
Available in: Standard · Pro · Business

Run the shop from the nest

Start nests from work orders, pull plates from inventory with remnants and smaller stock preferred by default, save reusable remnants after cutting, and print a setup sheet for every job. A shared data folder lets several operators work the same jobs.

Setup-sheet reports with printing (Business)
Work orders seed the nest and write fulfillment back
Plate inventory: eligible stock for the job, remnants and smaller plates preferred by default, your queue order kept (Pro)
Save Remnant after cutting, keeping the true outline and cutouts of what is left (Pro)
Complete Nest records what a linked work order produced and consumes the sheet
Multi-operator shared data folder with cross-machine file locking
Part labels, with optional Code 128 barcodes
Available in: Standard · Pro · Business
Plates · inventory that matches the job
06Posts & machines

Talks to the machine you already own

A library of controller-specific post templates ships in the box: plasma, laser and waterjet controllers, including the JD2 XR12 and MPR2. Cut charts hold your settings per material and thickness. We can't test every controller, so run a test cut on your own machine before production. If there is no template for your controller, ask and we will look at adding one.
