Orient an imported part before adding features
A STEP or IGES part often arrives lying the wrong way. Reorient Imported Model gives it a permanent coordinate frame in GCmaker: which face is top, which is front, and where zero is. Do it first, before features, arrays, end treatments or operations. It's separate from the loading orientation you choose later for a manufacturing setup. GCmaker only.
Import the STEP or IGES model as a part and check that a solid came in. In the design tree select the Base orientation, open its context menu and choose Reorient Imported Model.... The command belongs to the Base orientation of an imported shape. If the part already has features, arrays, end conditions or operations, the editor won't open, because those references can't be moved safely. Line up a fresh import rather than reworking a finished part.
In Base Model Orientation, use Top Face, then Pick Face, and pick in the main viewport with the editor open; then Front Face, then Pick Face, for a side face. Each row has a Flip control. Watch the preview and the labels. This is a quarter-turn alignment. Picked faces have to be flat and lined up with one of the model's own axes, so a sloping face is refused, and a face parallel to the top can't be the front. When a pick is refused, the status message says why.
Rotate X, Rotate Y and Rotate Z each offer 0, 90, 180 and 270 degrees. They turn the model frame in quarter turns. They aren't for arbitrary angles and they don't work out a rotary-axis setup.
Origin, then Pick Point, selects the vertex that becomes model zero; without a pick the source model's origin is kept. Check the Origin label and the preview to confirm it's the corner you meant. This sets the model's zero only: not a machine work offset, not a probed position, and not a linear stock job's datum.
Everything shown is a preview until Apply, which stores the orientation and origin in the part and rebuilds its base in that frame. Save the part afterwards to keep it. Cancel discards the draft. Reset to Original previews zero rotations and the source origin, and only takes effect with Apply; it doesn't remove later features or reset the document. The STEP or IGES file on disk is never touched. Manufacturing setups still need their own machine, process, part motion and, where needed, a rotation-axis definition.
